Find inspiration for your everyday jottings with a vintage slice of city life. The Waldorf Astoria, a luxury hotel known for its lavish dinner parties, galas, and balls, first opened in New York City in 1893 along Fifth Avenue. Savor a unique snapshot of daily life in the big apple with images from a February 3, 1894 banquet menu and a breakfast menu from October 10, 1905.
This notebook features images from The Buttolph Collection of Menus. Originated through the energetic efforts of Miss Frank E. Buttolph (1850–1924), who in 1899 offered to donate her existing menu collection to the Library, and to keep collecting on the Library's behalf, the collection now contains more than 25,000 menus. It can be found in the Digital Galleries and is held in the Rare Books Division of The New York Public Library.
