Vivid colors, dramatic composition, and exquisite detailing combine to glorious effect in this sumptuous silk scarf, inspired by a Carolina parrot illustration by John James Audubon. A naturalist and artist, Audubon traveled extensively throughout the U.S. during the early 1800s, endeavoring to document every indigenous bird species. This task culminated in 1827 with the publication of his Birds of America. Audubon's hand-colored illustrations were rendered through etching, engraving, and aquatint print processes.
Birds of America is part of the General Research Division, whose collections are primarily focused in the humanities and social sciences and include literary and scholarly works from the United States, Latin America, Western Europe, Eastern Europe, Asia, and the Middle East.
