Amanda Smith’s intricate illustration of the building’s winding staircases, vaulted ceilings, and grand arches captures the beautiful maze-like magic of getting (happily) lost inside one of NYC’s most beloved landmarks.

Designed by John Merven Carrère and Thomas Hastings, NYPL's iconic Beaux-Arts building houses outstanding research collections in the humanities and social sciences. The Library's home since its dedication in 1911, it’s stood for more than a century as an emblem of lifelong learning.
