Bring a tranquil point of focus to a room or office with Mova Globe’s perpetual motion. History enthusiasts will love this authentic antique world map, created by Giovanni Maria Cassini in 1790. Featuring latitude and longitude lines, it also delineates the three voyages of Captain James Cook—a design element created by Cassini. The map includes the United States, which was uncommon on maps at the time but does not include Antarctica, because James Cook didn't believe it existed. As the globe gently rotates, history comes to life in exquisite detail.
Founded in 2003 by physicist and inventor Bill French in a small San Diego beach town, Cardiff-by-the-Sea, these handcrafted Mova Globes use hidden solar cells powered by ambient light, while the earth’s magnetic field provides the necessary torque, allowing the globe to rotate within a clear outer shell. Globes come with an elegant three-finger stand but work on any stand or surface (except for those made of iron or a metal alloy that can be magnetized).
Dimensions: Small 4½'' x 7¼'' / Medium 6'' x 9¾ / Large 8½'' x 14''
Buoyant inner globe is virtually friction-free.
