Created by T. Watson Greig (1837–1912), Ladies' Dress Shoes of the Nineteenth Century, containing 63 illustrations, was published in 1900 in Edinburgh by publisher David Douglas, a copy of which is now held in the Art & Architecture Collection of the Miriam and Ira D. Wallach Division of Art, Prints and Photographs. Works of this type were acquired not only in anticipation of their immediate utility, but also in expectation of their future historical role as source documents for historians and designers.
