The past always informs the present and leads us into the future. We’ve repurposed images from old advertisements and vintage stamps in The New York Public Library's collections for this coaster set. Artful illustrations evoke NYPL's iconic flagship building and one of the Library's beloved marble lion statues. Connect with the history of a treasured New York institution and support the great work the Library will continue to do for generations.
The Stephen A. Schwarzman Building has been the Library’s home since its dedication in 1911. Designed by architects John Merven Carrère and Thomas Hastings, the Beaux-Arts building houses outstanding research collections in the humanities and social sciences, standing for more than a century as an emblem of access to knowledge for all. The marble lions flanking the building's entrance and welcoming all to the Library were modeled by sculptor Edward Clark Potter and carved from pink Tennessee marble by the Piccirilli brothers in 1911, the same year the Carrère and Hastings building opened to the public.
