This stately chair was designed specifically for the Rose Main Reading Room by Carrère and Hastings, the same architects who created the landmark Stephen A. Schwarzman Building at Fifth Avenue and 42nd Street. Made of red oak with a hand-rubbed finish, the chair debuted along with the building in 1911, and has been offering an oasis for study and reflection in the bustling city to seekers of knowledge ever since.
