On August 21, 1921 author A. A. Milne gave his son Christopher the stuffed bear who became known as Winnie-the-Pooh and is now the inspiration for stories beloved by generations of readers. The original Pooh and four of his friends—Eeyore, Piglet, Kanga, and Tigger—have been living at The New York Public Library since 1987. 

Celebrate the season with our favorite bear with an illustration from a first edition printing of Winnie-the-Pooh in NYPL's collections.
