Created for the Chicago, Rock Island, & Pacific Railway Company, this map, which traces passengers' favorite routes between Chicago and Council Bluffs, Kansas City, Leavenworth, Atchison, Minneapolis, St. Paul, and all points east, west, south-west, and north-west was engraved by George Franklin Cram in 1883. The map’s wide span and intricate detailing capture the grandeur of the contiguous United States and allude to the wide-ranging impact railroads had on the country’s development. NYPL’s Lionel Pincus and Princess Firyal Map Division holds this remarkable artifact.
