Michiko Kamee condenses beauty in her small art works to find its purest distillation, revealing exquisite visual epiphanies. The Kikka design reproduces Kamee’s “full of chrysanthemum” piece, originally hand-painted using gold overglaze and color on a china teacup, applied in a variety of delicate brush strokes. The name “Kikka” translates from the Japanese word for chrysanthemum, a revered national symbol of Japan.
Created in the traditional Satsuma style (17th–19th centuries), a decorative style that was in high demand in Europe during the second half of the 19th century, Kamee’s detailed rendering demonstrates the techniques of the style through precision in line, color choice, and breathtakingly beautiful gilding.
