Gay Book Buff T-shirt
Super-soft distressed unisex crew t-shirt is instantly loved by all who wear it. Fabric laundered for reduced shrinkage. Celebrating Barbara Gittings for her contribution to the fight for equality for the LGBT community, the t-shirt includes the "Gay Book Buff" message.
Gittings helped enlist activists from New York, Washington, D.C., and Philadelphia for the first public demonstrations for gay and lesbian equality. Held in front of Independence Hall each Fourth of July from 1965 to 1969, the protests known as Annual Reminders paved the way for the Stonewall riot in 1969.
These photos by Annette Lein were taken during the American Library Association celebration and Social Responsibilities Roundtable Award for Barbara. They appeared in the July 23, 1982 edition of the Philadelphia Gay News.
