Book Making and Leather Arts: A Demonstration at The New York Public Library Shop

Friday, Aug. 9th and Saturday, Aug. 10th from 10 am - 6 pm

Three artisans from the Italian leather company Natalizia will demonstrate old-world techniques for crafting various handmade leather products - journals, bags, pouches, keychains. Visitors will learn how the leather is treated and manipulated, the process of debossing and gilding, and binding techniques for books and journals. The artisans will also offer personal monogramming on the spot.

We partner with Natalizia on a number of products that feature various vintage stamps from the library, including journals, backpacks, briefcases, eyeglass cases, envelopes, mini card cases, and keychains. Here is a rare opportunity to observe their process and to take home a leather item with a personalized monogram.
