NYPL Wax Seal Kit

$ 24.00

What is sealing wax? It's a wax material which, after melting, hardens quickly and forms a bond that is difficult to separate without noticeable tampering. Wax is used to ensure that a document is unopened, to verify the sender's identity, for example with a signet ring, and as decoration. Sealing wax can be used to take impressions of other seals. Wax was used to seal letters close and later, from about the 16th century, envelopes.

Steps to use:

1. Light a small tea candle

2. cut small piece of wax and sit in a metal table spoon

3. Melt wax over candle into paste

4. pour melted wax into a quarter sized drop on paper or material you are looking to seal

5. Wait 2 seconds and press metal seal into the wax

6. Wait 10 seconds for wax to cool under seal

7. Pull your was stamper off the paper
